Best Automatic Cars Under ₹10 Lakh in Bengaluru (2026)
By Prasanna · Published · Updated
Bengaluru traffic is a good reason to want two pedals. The trouble is that "under ₹10 lakh" is usually quoted as an ex-showroom price, and the on-road figure in Karnataka is much higher. We have used estimated Bengaluru on-road prices from our catalogue, and for each car we list the cheapest automatic variant, not the best one. All prices are planning estimates from our price pages, not dealer quotes, and none is a promise of what you will pay.
These eight are a selected shortlist, not an exhaustive list or a road-test verdict. Budget ranks below were checked on 14 October 2026 and can change as the catalogue expands. Our best cars under ₹10 lakh ranking scores each car on its strongest variant inside the budget, which is usually a manual. So the scores below describe the car, and the price describes the automatic. Where the two differ, check the automatic variant's own page.
How we picked
We included automatics (AMT, AGS or CVT) with an estimated Bengaluru on-road price below ₹10 lakh, then chose cars with a clear mix of ranking position, safety data and recent sales. Gearboxes differ: most cars here use an automated manual (AMT or AGS), which is cheap and easy to live with but less smooth than a torque converter or CVT. Try one in traffic before you decide.
The shortlist, checked on 14 October 2026
| Car | Cheapest automatic variant | Est. on-road, Bengaluru | Rank under ₹10 lakh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Tiago | Pure Petrol AMT | ₹7.41 lakh | 13 |
| Nissan Magnite | Visia Petrol AMT | ₹7.58 lakh | 3 |
| Hyundai Exter | HX 3 Petrol AMT | ₹8.46 lakh | 18 |
| Maruti Suzuki Swift | VXi Petrol AMT | ₹8.63 lakh | 12 |
| Maruti Suzuki Baleno | Delta Petrol AMT | ₹9.06 lakh | 11 |
| Tata Altroz | Pure Petrol AMT | ₹9.32 lakh | 6 |
| Maruti Suzuki Dzire | VXi Petrol AGS | ₹9.33 lakh | 2 |
| Tata Punch | Pure+ Petrol AMT | ₹9.36 lakh | 1 |
Other automatics also fit: the Wagon R VXi 1.0 AGS at ₹7.22 lakh, the Celerio VXi AGS at ₹6.80 lakh and the Honda Amaze 2nd Gen S CVT at ₹9.42 lakh. The Fronx Delta 1.2 AMT is ₹9.95 lakh, just under the line.
Tata Punch: the top-ranked car in this budget
The Punch ranks first on our under ₹10 lakh list, under our published scoring formula. Its cheapest listed automatic is the Pure+ Petrol AMT at an estimated ₹9.36 lakh. It leaves little room for the Bengaluru on-road add-ons you might want, such as extended warranty, so ask for the written total.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire: the easy sedan
The Dzire is second in our ranking, and the VXi AGS costs an estimated ₹9.33 lakh. It also sold about 17,754 units in September 2026 (wholesale). It is a good fit for a sedan buyer who wants a boot and a simple automatic.
Nissan Magnite: the a lower-priced compact SUV option
The Magnite is third in the ranking with a high safety score in our catalogue formula, and the Visia AMT is an estimated ₹7.58 lakh. It is a base variant, so check its equipment list against your must-haves before assuming it matches the higher-ranked variant. Our variant guide explains how to do that.
Tata Altroz
The Altroz Pure Petrol AMT is an estimated ₹9.32 lakh. The car scores 100 for safety in our system and ranks sixth.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Swift
The Baleno Delta AMT (₹9.06 lakh) and Swift VXi AMT (₹8.63 lakh) rank lower in our list mainly because we have no applicable crash-test rating to score, and "untested" does not mean unsafe. They have strong sales: the Baleno led the country in September 2026 with 25,392 wholesale dispatches. Sales volume alone does not establish resale value, reliability or convenient service access. Check local service support directly.
Hyundai Exter and Tata Tiago: lower-priced shortlist options
The Exter HX 3 AMT is an estimated ₹8.46 lakh and the Tiago Pure AMT ₹7.41 lakh. These are two lower-priced options in this selected table. Other automatic cars can cost less. Both lack an applicable crash rating in our catalogue; that is uncertainty, not evidence that either car is unsafe. Check the exact variant’s safety equipment and the tested scope of any competing rating.
What the on-road number leaves out
Our estimates cover ex-showroom price, Karnataka road tax, registration, insurance and FASTag. They do not include dealer handling charges, accessories, extended warranty or add-ons. Read how to read a dealer quotation before you accept a total, and use the on-road price calculator to test other variants.
How to choose
- If safety is your priority, begin with the Punch, Dzire, Magnite and Altroz.
- If the sticker price matters most, begin with the Tiago, Magnite and Exter.
- If you want a familiar service network, the Baleno, Swift and Dzire are the Maruti Suzuki options.
- If you want an automatic that is not an AMT, look at the CVT in the Amaze, and see the guided finder for a larger family-car budget for more room.
Frequently asked questions
Is an AMT a real automatic? It is an automatic in the sense that there is no clutch pedal, but it is a manual gearbox with automated shifts. It can be slower and less smooth than a CVT or torque converter. A test drive in traffic shows the difference quickly.
Why does the on-road price differ so much from the ex-showroom price? Karnataka road tax is charged as a share of the vehicle price and is a large part of the gap, plus insurance and registration. See our on-road vs ex-showroom guide.
Will the dealer quote match these prices? It may not. Our figures are estimates with stated assumptions. Dealer offers, discounts and add-ons change the final amount, so compare written quotes for the same variant.
Are these the best automatic variants? No. They are the cheapest automatic variant of each car. A higher variant may offer more equipment or safety, and the price difference is on each variant page.
