Try Baleno Zeta AMT if its equipment meets your needs at the lower end of this band; compare i20 Sportz IVT if you prefer a CVT after driving both. For a sedan, compare Dzire ZXi AGS with Amaze VX CVT: the transmission and your luggage fit matter more than the trim badge. Punch Adventure AMT is the lower-priced SUV candidate here; Magnite N-Connecta Turbo CVT is a turbo/CVT alternative. Brezza VXi AT and Nexon Creative DCA need a larger budget. Test their low-speed response, parking visibility and equipment differences before paying the premium. A family test-drive checklist

Running costs: assumptions, not mileage promises

The table uses our mixed-use planning efficiency and petrol-price assumption, with 1,000 km per month. Fuel-only cost excludes servicing, tyres, insurance, finance and depreciation. Bengaluru stop-start traffic, load and air conditioning can reduce efficiency. Repeat the calculation with efficiency 20% below the estimate: fuel cost per kilometre rises 25%.
